Value
Complete v3.18 price list:
+
All tradeable items in UnReal World have a fixed intrinsic value. An NPC will accept a trade if the total value of the player's offer is equal to or greater than the total value of the items the NPC is trading. They will trade items at equal value, but will not trade at a loss. Values on this page are listed in squirrel hides or arrows, both of these having an equal base value of 1.

As Sami states in the development notes for version 3.15:
 +
<q>With the help of various historical sources and a few modern studies all the
 +
item prices have been checked and balanced. Item prices are now linked and
 +
relative to value of a squirrel hide, which is kind of a basic "currency". This
 +
"squirrel hide currency" stays a hidden factor, but now gives us a historically
 +
accurate base for item pricing.</q>

Price v3.40 with basic unit money are torches
+
The value in squirrel hides is also used for modded items in the "PRICE" tag.

VALUE
While the value of most items has remained stable across game versions, the prices of some craftable items has changed a lot in recent versions. In particular the price of torches, which were high enough to make them a common currency in v3.14, has dropped so dramatically in version v3.16 that it was worth writing a new price list entirely. The old price list, up to v3.14 is here.
+
Currency
The "value" of an item is a number of cuts of some canonical meat (but actual meat value depends upon the animal kind). Popular currencies in current v3.16 are cuts of meat, wooden bowls and fur footwear (worth 12 bowls).
+
In versions prior to v3.14, torches were often used as a player currency and for listing prices. Since then the value of torches has decreased significantly while arrow value has increased. Arrows are now the most convenient unit of currency, being commonly available and easily carried in bulk. One arrow is equal in value to one squirrel hide.

In v3.16, the only situation where it's worth crafting torches is if you have neither knife nor axe: you'll need around 55 torches to buy a small knife, and twice as much to buy a knife.
+
The more valuable animal furs can also be considered a form of portable currency. A fox fur is worth 10 squirrel hides, and a lynx fur is worth 50. Foreign traders in particular will only accept animal furs for trade.

In v3.18, Prices haven't been reevaluated yet. I propose to test value against Arrows so Buying 3 Arrows = 1bowl*2/3 (I'm tired so I cant do that math right now)
+
Although jewellery can be an effective way of carrying a lot of wealth, it is limited as a currency by its low availability and by the difficulty of matching its value in a trade.

*note Woodenbowls value is it's Sell to vendor value

*note Arrow Value is the value to Buy from Vendor, otherwise its S before the value Ex: for Knife buy it for 12 arrows
+
Value Modifiers
Quality Modifier
+
Values listed on this page refer to the base item with no other modifiers in play. Actual trade value can depend on several factors.
 +

 +
Item Quality
 +
Low or high quality items have their value modified according to a simple multiplier. This applies to all items with a quality modifier.

Villagers will generally refuse to accept items of the lowest quality level (crude / awful / poor / ragged) for trade.

 +
Food Preservation
 +

 +
Smoked, dried and salted foods are more valuable than raw foods.

Villager Opinion
 +

 +
If villagers have a good opinion of the character, they will have more leeway in trade value and may accept trades that are not in their favour. Villager opinion can be increased by beneficial trades, gift giving, and possibly in other ways as well.
 +

 +
When the player makes a trade that has significantly more value than the villager expects they will comment on the player's generosity. As villager opinion increases, the way the villagers greet or interact with the character will change to indicate their changed opinion.
 +

 +
Market Saturation
 +

 +
For some items (boards in particular) villagers will only accept them for trade when the village lacks them. Attempting to trade more of these items when the village already has enough will be refused.
 +

 +

 +
Current Price List
Values are given in squirrel hides / arrows. Please help by verifying prices that have not been recently verified.

Common Trade Items
 +

 +
These items are commonly found, desired, or used for trade. Similar items will often have similar values.

Note that Quality impacts the price: rough/harsh items are worth half the value.

Javelins are trade-worthy, although their value is about the same as the staves from which they are made, so they are a poor trade good. The above information is likely a false-positive which stems from crude quality (reduces value to 0), or attempting to purchase an object whose value is 100+ times that of a single javelin, which causes merchants to balk. This is circumvented by offering the item in bulk.
+
Food
Food
+
Raw food prices are directly proportional to nutrition. If a food were made up 100% of carbohydrates fat and protein, the price would be 0.5/lb. In practice foods range from 6% nutritive (mushrooms) to 73% (barley).

Fish is worth between 0.05 (Roach) to 9 (Pike-perch), depending on its weight and nutrition.
+
Processing such as drying, smoking, or grinding to flour will generally increase the value of the product.

Berries
 +
 +
Berries are valued according to their nutritional value, but picking time accounts for the number of berries picked not their weight. Thus the larger berries (cloudberries and raspberries) are the best to pick for trade. The smallest and least nutritive berries (cranberries) will take 800 minutes to pick enough for one pound of nutrition (half a squirrel hide of value), whereas the largest and most nutritive (cloudberries) require only 91 minutes of picking for that same value.

*ArrowValues as of v3.18

Individual meat cuts are worth around 1, depending on the sort of meat. For instance, bear meat is more valuable than reindeer meat.

 +
Crops
 +
The base prices listed here are for seeds, even for plants that do not produce seeds. For flour-producing crops, flour value is 1.5x seed value. For root crops, root value is 2x seed value.

Value

All tradeable items in UnReal World have a fixed intrinsic value. An NPC will accept a trade if the total value of the player's offer is equal to or greater than the total value of the items the NPC is trading. They will trade items at equal value, but will not trade at a loss. Values on this page are listed in squirrel hides or arrows, both of these having an equal base value of 1.

As Sami states in the development notes for version 3.15: With the help of various historical sources and a few modern studies all the item prices have been checked and balanced. Item prices are now linked and relative to value of a squirrel hide, which is kind of a basic "currency". This "squirrel hide currency" stays a hidden factor, but now gives us a historically accurate base for item pricing.

The value in squirrel hides is also used for modded items in the "PRICE" tag.

Currency

In versions prior to v3.14, torches were often used as a player currency and for listing prices. Since then the value of torches has decreased significantly while arrow value has increased. Arrows are now the most convenient unit of currency, being commonly available and easily carried in bulk. One arrow is equal in value to one squirrel hide.

The more valuable animal furs can also be considered a form of portable currency. A fox fur is worth 10 squirrel hides, and a lynx fur is worth 50. Foreign traders in particular will only accept animal furs for trade.

Although jewellery can be an effective way of carrying a lot of wealth, it is limited as a currency by its low availability and by the difficulty of matching its value in a trade.

Value Modifiers

Values listed on this page refer to the base item with no other modifiers in play. Actual trade value can depend on several factors.

Item Quality

Low or high quality items have their value modified according to a simple multiplier. This applies to all items with a quality modifier.

Quality Value
Crude / Awful / Poor / Ragged 0.25x
Rough / Bland / Inferior / Harsh 0.5x
Fine / Tasty 1.25x
Masterwork / Delicious / Perfect / Superior 1.5x

Villagers will generally refuse to accept items of the lowest quality level (crude / awful / poor / ragged) for trade.

Food Preservation

Smoked, dried and salted foods are more valuable than raw foods.

Food Preservation Value Multiplier Shelf Life
Raw 1x 2 days
Roasted 1.1x? 3 days
Salted 1.75x? 6 days?
Smoked 1.25x? 40 days?
Dried 1.5x? 1 year?

(both value multiplier and spoil time need verification)

Villager Opinion

If villagers have a good opinion of the character, they will have more leeway in trade value and may accept trades that are not in their favour. Villager opinion can be increased by beneficial trades, gift giving, and possibly in other ways as well.

When the player makes a trade that has significantly more value than the villager expects they will comment on the player's generosity. As villager opinion increases, the way the villagers greet or interact with the character will change to indicate their changed opinion.

Market Saturation

For some items (boards in particular) villagers will only accept them for trade when the village lacks them. Attempting to trade more of these items when the village already has enough will be refused.

Food

Raw food prices are directly proportional to nutrition. If a food were made up 100% of carbohydrates fat and protein, the price would be 0.5/lb. In practice foods range from 6% nutritive (mushrooms) to 73% (barley).

Processing such as drying, smoking, or grinding to flour will generally increase the value of the product.

Meat

Meat Value Verified Notes
Generic Meat Cuts 0.125

Some meats (such as bear meat) are significantly more valuable than others. Accurate data for the current game version is needed.

Mushrooms

All mushrooms have the same nutritional value, and thus price per pound.

Mushroom Value per pound Verified Notes
All 0.03/lb

Berries

Berries are valued according to their nutritional value, but picking time accounts for the number of berries picked not their weight. Thus the larger berries (cloudberries and raspberries) are the best to pick for trade. The smallest and least nutritive berries (cranberries) will take 800 minutes to pick enough for one pound of nutrition (half a squirrel hide of value), whereas the largest and most nutritive (cloudberries) require only 91 minutes of picking for that same value.

Berry Value per pound Berry Weight (fistful) Verified Notes
Northern Bilberry 0.02/lb 0.1 lowest nutrition and value
Cranberry 0.025/lb 0.05 very low nutrition and value, and very slow to pick
Raspberry 0.03/lb 0.2 low nutrition and value, but fast to pick. Second best berry to pick for trade
Blueberry, Lingonberry, Crowberry 0.04/lb 0.1
Strawberry, Black currant 0.045/lb 0.1
Cloudberry 0.055/lb 0.2 Adequate nutrition and fast to pick. The best for both trade and eating

Crops

The base prices listed here are for seeds, even for plants that do not produce seeds. For flour-producing crops, flour value is 1.5x seed value. For root crops, root value is 2x seed value.
