Barley is a crop that can be planted, harvested, and eventually ground into flour.
Notice that barley's growing time is almost as long as its growing period, i.e. it starts withering a bit over a week after it's fully grown if planted the very first day of Seedtime (May). If it's fully grown before the withering starts, it can still be harvested though. Thus it is advised to plant barley even before Seedtime begins.
Like with rye, it's possible to plant barley in autumn (Dirt and possibly Fall) and it will then sprout in Seedtime.
