Wooden building
The largest structure buildable by the player. The name used in the game is somewhat generic because it's a highly modular loghouse structure, and can be built in a multitude of sizes and layouts. You can use it as a template to build not only log cabins, but additional storage houses, separate workshops, small saunas, a smoking house, and so on.

Resources and tools required
One of the major tasks you're going to do is building your own log cabin. Building it requires a lot of time, resources and effort. You will need:
Material
- Logs - Prepared from tree trunks. Tree trunks can be acquired by chopping down large trees.
- Slender tree trunks - Needed for some of the timberframes used in the structure.
- Boards - Needed for some of the smaller features, such as floors, doors, shutters and various optional pieces of wooden furniture (a table, a sleeping bunk, a bench).
Tools
- Axes - Broad, carving, woodsman and splitting axes can be used in a log building's construction. Bear in mind that you don't actually need all of these types for construction, you can do well with, e.g. a woodsman's axe. However, having an axe from each of these four types at hand makes the job a lot faster and easier.
Construction phase 1: Gathering material
To build a wall, you need logs, made from fallen trees or tree trunks. You can fell a tree with the timbercraft skill, pressing Alt+M and then fell a tree. Tree trunks can be made into logs or boards with timbercraft skill as well. Currently the best way to transport a large numbers of logs is to move or push them on to some sort of watercraft, then rowing them as close as possible to your building site. This is because there is no limit to how many logs can be on a single tile, and they are always too heavy to be carried by the player or NPCs.
Construction phase 2: Building the log cabin
A single tile of wall requires 6 logs. All the building commands for a wooden cabin can be found by pressing Alt+B for the Building skill, and then W for Wooden building. After the walls, you will need to build the floor and the ceilings. Additionally you may add a couple of shutters and a door. Also if you like your cabin to be warm, you will need a fireplace as well. After all, you can't just build an open fire on the floor! (Unlike outdoors.)
Constructing additional buildings
Cellars
Cellars are considered to be an outdoor-type section of the building.
You cannot sleep in a cellar when it's raining. You can shield from the rain if you build a cellar in a cave.
Don't build a cellar on a ceiling/floor tile, or you will lose the materials spent on the construction of that ceiling/floor tile.
Saunas and utilising caves
Cave rocks are like walls: Therefore you can build ceiling and floor in cave floor. Build a door at the cave entrance to close it so that your cave can work as a smoking house/sauna. Cave reduce the number of logs you need to build walls. The only problem with caves is that it's hard to transport logs/boards/slender trunks by water, which is why a cave with water on the right side is the rarest of the rare, since you could move them right up to the cave mouth. The choice between waterbank sites versus caves is a big one.
Overview of building components
Main parts
- Wall (requires 6 logs for each segment)
- Floor and ceiling (requires 2 slender trunks and 6 boards for each segment)
- Door (requires 8 boards)
- Shutter (requires 6 logs and 2 boards for each segment with a shutter)
Furniture
See also Furniture for the subcategory listing all furniture types.
- Sleeping bunk (requires 6 boards)
- Table (requires 10 boards)
- Bench (requires 2 boards)
- Fireplace (requires 35 stones)
The only indispensible piece of furniture - if one wants to cook inside - is the fireplace. A loghouse can be used for habitation without a sleeping bunk, table and bench, but they provide better conditions for resting and certain types of crafts (e.g. hideworking).
Accompanying structures
- Cellar (requires 6 slender tree trunks, 6 boards, 10 stones, a shovel)
- Fence (requires 6 wooden stakes for each fence segment)
Though you don't need to build these, they can prove useful while building your very own log cabin homestead or small settlement in the UnReal World. The cellar is particularly useful as a storage facility for supplies and materials. The fence can be used to fend off intruders or fence in your livestock or tamed animals.
