Firewood is made by cutting up tree trunks or logs into blocks of wood and finally into firewood, preferably with a splitting axe. Each block of wood gives between 20 and 25 units of firewood. Splitting firewood requires the timbercraft skillVerify.
Two pieces of firewood are required to light a fire on an open tile. In contrast, four pieces are required when lighting a fire in a fireplace. If the player has some skill in timbercraft, burning firewood in a fireplace is the most economical way of using wood for fires.Verify An alternative would be to use stakes made from slender tree trunks instead. Why?
The player should be careful of starting multiple fires as they can spread to adjacent tiles that have flammable materials on them. This can lead to forest fires, destroyed stockpiles or even burning down the player's home. The plus side is that multiple fires can be exploited to quickly prepare tiles for farming.
