Lavaret's are one of the most uncommon fish to catch (depending on your area). If you set up a net in a rapids tile near the ocean you are much more likely to catch lavarets. A lavaret (being one of the heaviest large fish) is the best fish to smoke/dry/salt at your camp and keep in a cellar because it weighs the most.
Although they are larger than salmon and trout they are much more common to catch as trout and salmon are the most uncommon fish to catch.
