Salting meat is one of the three ways to preserve food in UnReal World (the others being smoking and drying). For the process, a knife and a pound of salt per ten pounds of meat are required, thus a 12 lb salt bag can preserve 120 cuts of meat. The meat is then left to salt for 5 days.

Salt is available from Driikiläinen and Reemiläinen villages, and from foreign traders. A bag of salt is very expensive, though. It cost one adventurer 15 "Käpälälauta"-fox traps.

Salted meat does not last as long as either smoked or dried meat, but the process takes less time and no tying equipment or special conditions are required.
