Black ear mushrooms sprout in Swidden month (April) and grow to maturity after about 60 days. As such, they can be collected from the beginning of Fallow (June) until Hay (July), when they start to wither.

Their poison is deadly, but they are safe to eat after boiling.

In real world

Despite being deadly if consumed raw, Gyromitra esculenta is considered a delicacy in Scandinavia, Eastern Europe and the upper Great Lakes Region of North America. Its common names include brain mushroom, Elephan ears and Turban Fungus.
