When doing Advanced Adventures, and are tasked to gain a new spell as per: The Spirit World, IF the character has learnt any additional spells prior, then the task will complete when loading the game.

The quest will NOT auto-complete with additional spells known and getting to The Spirit World task.

If character only knows the initial 4 spells, then the quest will wait for learning 5th spell / magic means.

Suggestions / Burials of deceased people.
« on: January 11, 2021, 08:09:03 PM »
Sami-folk / Tribes tended to bury their dead in stone mounds, often wrapped in birchbark.
In the southern parts of the North, dead were sometimes cremated. Sometimes buried in ground, sometimes in stone mounds, and often people that were hostile, buried in bogs.

One of my characters disposed a gang of 4 vagabond robbers, and as he went to bury them the following night, found the remains to... float. (if needed, some tying equipment and stone should help with submersing)

Suggestion, allow varied burial types for deceased.
1) pushing or throwing remains in water in open mire and pine mire to be "buried in bog" similar to metal items.
2) add tile-gfx for burial mound, constructed with remains and 15-20-ish stones *
3) adding items in dug pit, then filling the pit; leave the items in the ground, not pop-up on the surface
Cremation/burning remains already works

* adding some mounds in proximity to villages would add touch of realism, deepen immersion. And in case of hired help dying, carrying, or dragging the remains back to their home village could allow proper burial.

Bug reports / 3.63 Indoor, high flying raven
« on: January 10, 2021, 06:03:33 PM »
The raven got in the open door. Shooed it away. Went on homestead chores, walked in the cabin and the raven was back inside. Closed the door and decided to remove the raven from genepool (can't let them get smarter and stronger and take over entire North)
The bird was flying high, so couldn't hit it with a sword nor spear. I didn't build the cabin that high... (some arrows took the bird down eventually)

Expectation: bird indoors can't fly high out of range of melee weapons.

Bug reports / 3.63, sleep walking grouse
« on: January 10, 2021, 05:23:45 AM »
I came across a sleepwalking grouse. (injuries were around 59%, walking speed was 0km/h) couldn't catch up to it. and it was also "snoring" i.e. cooing while going on fast asleep

Suggestions / Village services
« on: January 07, 2021, 04:04:53 AM »
Parts of this have been suggested before if memory serves.

Sometimes when we start the game, our character might have couple rye breads. Not the flat ones we can bake ourselves, but the sourdough risen ones. Yet we can’t buy them nor bake them ourselves. That brings us to the core of this suggestion.

Enable asking villager housewife, maiden (in future: old women, once added) to bake a batch of rye breads. Provide flour, with some extra* as payment for the work. Come and collect in the evening after a full day from morning. I.e. ask for rye bread to be baked early morning and get it evening the same day. Ask for the rye bread baking morning, or later in the day; and it will be baked the day after.

The same could be done with fish or meat smoking; bring in fish or meat, ask for a villager to smoke it, come collect it (10% to 20% less, for payment for the work)

Ask a craftsman to make punt, net, longbow, dozen fine arrows, and so on and on. Pay for the product, then come back later to pick it up. Of course the craftsman could sometimes refuse, responding “I’m sorry but I don’t know how to make a longbow” or “I’m busy with other jobs right now, come see me in few days”

*or alternative payment for the work.

Bug reports / Mushroom soup reveals unidentified mushrooms name.
« on: January 05, 2021, 06:08:53 AM »
If one cooks mushroom soup (^c, v, 4) from blanched/ boiled) mushrooms that the character has not identified: the game will still call the soup as the mushroom as it were known to the character.

E.g.
Herblore check on ‘peculiar mushroom’: not identified: peculiar mushrooms
Boil enough of the mushrooms to have 2lbs*. Do Herblore check: boiled peculiar mushrooms, edible.
Cook the mushrooms into soup. And the game, once cooking has started will prompt: “you set yellow finger mushroom soup to cook”. Any Herblore check will fail, similar to using the skill on non-plants.

*I’ve not tried to cook unidentified mushrooms before boiling.

Suggestions / Additional tree produce.
« on: January 01, 2021, 08:49:48 AM »
Spruce branch sprouts (kuusenkerkät) are loaded with vitamins and antioxidants. They’ve been used eaten as is or boiled to a drink. Minor vigor boost (maybe milder in-game boost than bear pipe?), easing fatigue, for respiratory ailments and oral hygiene. Limited harvest window few weeks some time during Swidden-Seedtime only.

Birch leaves and especially the budding new leaves have been used as medication to help with cleaning kidneys, and urinary tract; flushing toxins. Also a minor antiseptic. The sap has sugars, but only stays good for couple days. Boiled bark has been used as medication for skin ailments. Fresh buds are highly effective, later summer (hay month and later) the effects are almost disappeared.

Aspen bark, buds and fresh new leaves are antiseptic, reducing inflammation and infections, and fever reducer.

There are many more tree products with similar beneficial effects.

When talking to a sage, giving a quest e.g. Waterfolk, he offers to heal wounds when greeting, yet there's no response to have him proceed with the healing. Same after accepting the quest. See attached.
Backing out to root of chatting tree, then asking for help allows asking for the help from the sage.

Expectation: have option to proceed with the offered healing
Or: when sage is quest giver, don't offer help if no option to accept the offered help.

Attempting to deconstruct an open door will fail, with prompt “you can’t deconstruct that”

Closing the door, then deconstructing works perfectly.

Bug: can’t deconstruct open door.
Expectation: to be able to deconstruct open door.

Be it walking or running in snow or swimming, paddling on raft, enable exactly same movement for NPCs as character deals with.

No more skiless robbers running in waist deep snow to catch up to grandmaster skier.
No more character peppering Njerpez from watercraft without chance of the hostile to swim over and climb or capsize the vessel.
No more NPCs waltzing through traps. Have them at least kick the trap 1st to trigger them.

Suggestions / Board splitting, historical alternative to axes.
« on: December 27, 2020, 07:03:53 PM »
Currently our characters can split boards of a trunk preferably with Splitting axe or Woods man’s axe. But any metal axe will do the job.
Another historical method to split boards, is with hard wood wedges.

So I suggest to allow splitting boards with ‘wooden wedge’*1, made from either slender trunks or from stakes. Maybe 4-6 wedges from a stake, bunch more from slender trunk. The wedges should be “scrap” or 0 squirrel hides value. Fire hardening requirement debatable?

Actual trunk splitting to boards with wedges should be slower than with axes, but also yield higher quality boards, so give a ~10% skill bonus. With ~30min time penalty or same time as non-preferred axe. If using wedges, blunt weapon, as with final step in tanning, should be required to drive in the wedges.
And last, not least, the board splitting should be pausable task.

*1 the wedges could be also required in deconstruction of log walls, especially if working alone without companion(s)

Modding / Pit smoker, doable without building walls?
« on: December 24, 2020, 06:58:30 PM »
I’ve been trying to figure out a way to build a smoker/smoke house without 54 logs, 20 boards and 4 slender trunks.
Had an idea to dig 2 adjacent pits, then mod a structure to include roof, walls and fireplace.
But the placement of “walls” (packed earth) in soil... won’t work as walls.
I’m not sure if the idea is doable or not. So, can anyone think of a way for the idea to work at all without needing to build the walls tile by tile?

Off-topic / Erkka needs to hone his AIM.
« on: December 19, 2020, 08:44:05 AM »
Hunh. Sent some kekri/jule/xmas funds to the Elks (over due, I know. Paid for the game ~20years ago. Def got my monies worth)

And watched the donation video: go to sauna 2019. Sami pours some barley into sauna scoop with water already in it. And Erkka swooping it to the stove; manages to splash half of the scoop on the side of the kiuas and on the floor.

Such. Travesty. Next video: retake the action until at least 80% make it on the rocks.
You know there’s some foreigners here, that don’t know, but might expect that to be the norm... Unless the first 12 beers were edited out...  ;D
