I really don't need and don't want to kill unnecessary prey, like this Eagle Owl.

This it's not the case, but sometimes i use traps for food protection.

Would be good to be able to spare.

If you dismantle the trap the animal will 'go free'
To help is it's own reward.

If you are referring to the wiki article, please: update it to current version. If I t’s referring to the in-game Info (F1), then please do create a separate suggestion thread for it. (Makes it easier to manage; less prone for getting over looked by devs)

FWIW, last update/batch, Sami updated the issue of released animals spontaneously dying after release/trap deconstruction.
