I'd like the locations that we receive from village women to show on the F6 map when they give us the directions, instead of still having to scout the area to locate them. Call me lazy...heh

Are you talking about the traveling/escort quest?

I remember that quest sends your character back to home territories and can successfully complete in any village there.  That would make a map marker more challenging because they'd have to place one on each village in your home culture.  I'm not sure that would even make sense. If they knew where to go, why would they ask for your character to escort them?

It would be pretty neat if your character had some memories of their home territory at the start of the game.

No. I refer to the ability to ASK a village women if she knows of any nearby villages. They'll sometimes know of none but when theydo, their directions are very general, such as, 'NE at 20 kilometers'. I'd like that village to then appear on my map, F6.

Why not directions from everyone?
Maybe use a different style from quest markers, to keep the map clean. Separating quests and “rumors”

I for one have never really translated when they say # kilometers into just how far I should go.

Even if its not an exact wilderness tile maybe a proximity marker. That makes it still needed to explore.

The farther away the destination is the bigger the marker is.

Maybe limit how many such rings the player can have on their map at once.

The subject fooled me, I can get directions from any villager, not just women.

The hard time I have with these directions is when they tell me a village is close but it turns out to be hard to reach.  This happens often when I'm near the large lakes and waterways.  I will be told that a nearby village is just an hour's walk away, but it turns out that if the water's not frozen, I won't be able to walk there in a whole day of traveling.  This would be a tougher problem to solve though.

Are those directions accurate at all anyway? In terms of distance. I always thought they are wildly inaccurate.

One other note:

One wilderness tile is 100 supposedly meters, funnily zoomed in walk-count tells actually 64 tiles = 128 meters (which I like, an old coder loves 16-divisible numbers).

Correct 100 meters below to actually display 128 meters?

Such irony in the region name I got  ;D ;D

As far as I've seen 1 km = 10 tiles. However, UrW rounds UP, so something that's reported to be 3 km away would be 21-30 tiles away (just like an item that's reported to weigh 2 lbs actually weigh more than 1 lbs but up to and including 2 lbs).

The directions to nearby villages when outside of a quest are more or less useless, because they use fixed values that have little relation to the actual distance, and for the 20 km one there can be many villages closer than that.

It's deliberate choice that the verbal information is all you get. Having everything precisely marked up on the map turns the feeling of the world into something very different.
