Animal in forest cover died

Hello! So I got the famous animal in the forest cover quest. This time it's a ram (sheep when it appeared). After finding the tracks and performing the spell, it appeared to me. However, a glutton appeared out of nowhere, chased it away and killed it before I could catch up and protect it. I took the dead body of the ram/sheep back to the village, but everyone just ignored it, and the quest is marked as still ongoing with markers and all. I decided to butcher it and smoke the meat. Can I look for another ram/sheep, then? Or that was it and better to abandon? Thanks in advance for any help.

Alright, thanks guys! It might have been a coincidence, or maybe owing to the fact that the ram was especially protected by the forest, but it was the first time I was able to cook "tasty" quality meat with my low cookery skill.
