I can wear and take off a single bandage in the wear/take_off screens. Is there a purpose to wearing one?

When a bandage is first applied you get the 'Treated' result for the wound to which it is applied.

I think it's a longstanding bug/oversight. I took off everything once then wore a bandage to see if it had any coverage, and it does not.

No, there's no purpose. It's just possible to wear, with no benefits, because the item type is armour/cloth.
