So my character was fighting a very tired Njerpeziläinen. Njerp kept consistently blocking my spear attacks to the body with his roundshield, so I thought I would kick him in the leg to make him lower his shield and then get a thrust to the head. I think I got a critical hit because I nailed him in the eye, knocking him unconscious and bleeding.

So is the classic high-low trick implemented in the game? Or was my Njerp just holding his shield CENTER, being unable to raise the shield to cover his head?

I have noticed when loosing arrows at Njerps that if they are holding shield centre and I shoot for their head, next time I shoot they are holding shield high.  So yes, I do think they move their shield to where they think the next attack is coming from.
