I would really love to see the game ask for confirmation before I eat that "quaint mushroom" that I've been carrying around to boost my Herblore skill. It asks for confirmation before I try to climb something, and eating unfamiliar herbs or mushrooms is *way* more dangerous!

I managed to survive the Deadly Poisoning this time, but next time I might not be so lucky  :-\

Did it taste good?
To help is it's own reward.

It was plain good quaint mushroom, and happily consumed too. XD

Sometimes unknown mushrooms are just too tempting to pass up  ;)

(Turn off the confirmation for climbing in urw.ini if that's what you would prefer.)

I've had my character eat unknown mushrooms based purely on the description; if it seemed to be a happy/positive description, I ate it. This tactic has lengthened my Ancestors list by a good deal  ;D

I think this should be extended, also to unknown plants in general.

If you have trouble mixing eat and herlore command, you can remap herblore hotkey in ini_skills.txt

There is both an issue with the key mapping (which can be addressed by davidor's method) and one or UrW's infuriating inventory reshuffling. The items to be examined via herb lore are usually at the end of the "food" list, but sometimes UrW reshuffles items on drop/pickup and sometimes not (with a lingering effect). Thus, when I pick up a bowl of stew from the cellar after having tanned a skin (and dropped everything held to pick them up afterwards), most of the time it ends up in the same location in the list, but sometimes it does not, in which case it's very easy to accidentally eat what's in the position where the stew should have been located.

i would like the confirmation for eating unknown added in.

Various keystroke errors by the player can ruin the gaming experience in a way not intended. Lets not User Interface or User Error shatter a play through.

IF they confirmed then truly they have made their choice.

Yes, and let's have the option to turn the confirmation ON or OFF in urw.ini

I'd prefer the value to be initially OFF since it gets tedious when eating not fully identified plants.

Someone can avoid the problem of eating unknown mushrooms by simply not collect them before identifying them. I wouldn't even collect mushrooms which are poisonous in their raw state. It is a little bit annoying to survive a bunch of Njerpez Raiders and a whole winter just to die then because of having accidentally eating the wrong thing. But this is just the right thing which should happen if someone gathers poisonous mushrooms. Don't do that.
