Development News / Re: Version 3.86 beta released
« on: Today at 12:25:30 AM »
Nutrition values of ingredients itself haven't changed, but the cooking now better takes into account the whole prepared recipe and its volume when eaten. The system deals with both nutrition and stomach content, like it has done for ages, but now for example the soup water content may get more nutritious and fills your stomach more reasonably than previously.
So, yes, fistful of leaves made into a soup is more nutritious than fistful of leaves eaten raw.

This update is making me once again want to make 20lb bags full of soup  :D

Development News / Re: Preserved meat/fish cooking and birch-bark pots
« on: April 01, 2025, 09:34:45 PM »
Man, those new birch-bark pots are gonna make the blanching and eating of leeched poisonous mushrooms so much more accessible to the player! Instead of saving up resources to buy an iron pot, you can now make a quick and simple bark pot for easy access to eating.

My experience with edible poisonous mushrooms is with the very abundant bearpaw mush. Found in cone forests and spruce mires in late summer to autumn, bearpaws are a great and nutritious way to supplement your diet when prey is scarce.

If the somewhat elusive yellowfinger, yellowcoat, and browncoat mushrooms are the filet mignons of the forest floor, then bearpaws are the dependable chuck roasts. Abundant, affordable, and tasty after just a little bit of work.

Go out and grab some bearpaws, everyone!

Thanks, Sami.

It's been a long time since I've played this character and an even longer time since this character has been on this part of the map, but if I ever find this spot again, I'll create a save and send it to you as a zipped file. Thanks!

Question: Is the nettle cheese recipe in BAC 3.82 the same as this one?

Please mark this as not a bug. It's just an unusual occurrence.

Thanks, Sami. I will take the character back to that same village a bunch and see if I can recreate the scenario. If I see it again, I'll send you the zipped file.

Sorry for the very late reply, but it actually is true that fungi can start rotting before maturation. I think especially if the mushrooms are in less than ideal condition before they fully ripen.

I agree that the reason is it started to bloom really late in the season like you said.

Not bugs / Re: [3.80beta] Two bugs - Sage quest & Field plants disappearing
« on: December 28, 2023, 03:28:22 AM »
Oh, of course!! So the thief has been out-thieved, the answer is so obvious!  ;)

I have checked most of the tiles around the villages and they are also completely harvested.

Luckily, I have rolled back the character so I can still trying sniping those plants one more time 😈

I am dying to try out textilecraft, and I am not waiting another calendar year for harvest 😈😈😈

Thank you for the answer, I am really glad it is not a bug.

I also have an older save of the character that is experiencing this bug, so I loaded it into 3.82 and will play through the time frame of when the plants disappeared and see if I can recreate it. If it happens again, I'll post screenshots.

Not bugs / [Not a bug] Two bugs - Sage quest & Field plants disappearing
« on: December 26, 2023, 08:03:55 PM »
First bug: Upon entering a village, the screen immediately opens the chat dialogue with the sage who has a quest for me. This happened twice in the same village with the same sage who had the herb picking quest for me each time. Chat dialogue box appears right as I enter the village when the screen is supposed to zoom in to the village itself. I'm not standing anywhere near the sage as I enter the village.

Second bug: Field and pasture plants (flax, hemp, broad beans, peas, barley) disappear right as they are supposed to mature. I noticed this because I'm playing a vegetarian character who is foraging/stealing from nearby village fields. The plants were supposed to mature within a week to a few days, and I kept going back to see if they were mature yet. Instead of maturing, they had all vanished off the screen.

The only plants in the same tiles that were not affected were ryes, which successfully matured, could be harvested, and are now withering. And wild dog pipe plants.

I don't know if I had done something to make this plant bug happen. Before they matured, I was able to harvest hemps and flaxes for the fibres only for textilecrafting. Did this contribute to the bug?

Suggestions / Future update for eye injuries and loss of eye
« on: June 10, 2023, 11:17:28 PM »
I hope in the future update where eye injuries could result in loss of the eye that the eyesight stat will be halved or diminished accordingly if that were to occur.  ;D

Two instances of mushrooms being both not fully ripe and withering at the same time. Unable to [g]et.

Other mushrooms and plants around these two bugged mushrooms seem fine though.

Maybe not bricks, but wattle and daub was surely a thing?  Maybe a fence, water, some dung, and some dried nettles could make a weatherproof but not large inquisitive animal proof wall?

That would make a nice mod!

I planted a field the other day. How do I spread dropping onto the planted field? Just [d]rop it on top of the soil and leave it there?

I'll answer my own question. Yes, to fertilize an already-planted field, just drop dung right on top of the tile, and it will disappear (absorb) in a day or two.
