I'm trying my hand at farming and followed the instructions and planted several seeds per square in a smallish 4x8 area that's fenced in.

Initially there's a small greenish patch on the ground that seems to indicate sprouts. I'm planting in Late Swidden based on an understanding (perhaps incorrect!) that it makes sense to plant before seedtime since barley takes a long time to grow.

After a day or so the little green sprouty looking patches go away. Is the seed being eaten? Is this normal?

I started my game as a Kaumolaiset fisherman with something like 50-60% skill and a fishing rod and I have consistently caught a huge number of perch in the very large lake I live on in the southeast.

It's amazing how much variability the game has :D

Here's a more recent updated but I found something interesting.
When I added patch and patchwise it looks like I end up with multiple pots afterwards when using bake. I wonder if bake is incompatible with patchwise?
I modified the amounts a bit and the times and tried to make the carb/fat proportion match. Still not sure if this is quite right. I think I need to tweak the turnip amount up to about 3lbs and the fat to match and then up the time just a bit.

The reason I used the "bake" recipe style is because it automatically requires a pot. Roast didn't seem quite right. I agree with you on the time though...I'm going to cut that down and add patchwise as well.

Here's my first attempt at a mod. It's a recipe for fried turnips. I'm not sure if I think the proportions and times are right...20 minutes to prep and 30 minutes to slowly fry with 1lb of turnips and .2lbs of any fat.

Any feedback or tips appreciated :)

I successfully met a water spirit in 3.50b2 but I had to try two different locations before it worked. I'm not sure I was on the right kind of rock the first time.

They were all non-spike pit traps and the tracks don't even seem to go to them. I think the Elk died of frustration trying to get around my fence :D

I went to check my long fence line with 5 trap pits on a narrow strip of land between two lakes today. I didn't have anything in my traps but out of the corner of my eye I saw a dead elk about 10 paces away.

It was partially eaten but gave me a fine skin and 208 cuts of meat.

How did it die I wonder? Bear? Wolf? Njerpez? Old age?

I don't know but I do know I love this game.

I just "survived" my first winter.

I actually died at least three times doing things that I was 90% sure were going to get me killed but I backup my saves.

I simply can't play Roguelikes the way they're designed. It's too depressing to lose the "progress" I've made :)

Suggestions / Drinking from bowls, tubs on the floor

I'm new here so apologies if this has been covered before but I think it would be cool to be able to drink/quaff automatically when there's a bowl/tub of water on the ground where you're standing.

Unless I'm missing something, you have to pick up the bowl first, drink, then set it down.

It's not unrealistic as it is but it does get a bit tedious :)
