Gameplay questions / Re: Is this an exploit or game mechanic?
« on: August 30, 2018, 02:22:00 PM »
Yeah boards are quite valuable to villagers (maybe they should set an amount of boards/tree materials traded/given to villagers and then a new building will appear) and most of what I do to obtain items through trading is by selling boards. The process of creating them is difficult enough, but I feel the timbercraft goes up way too quickly.

Now if you want a REAL  exploit I found one a long time back but I didn't think much of it and it was so obscure anyways, maybe I'll try to fetch that one again... 'soon'

Well, you may want to try having save-states by copy/pasting the folder with your character's name into a different location.

Broken arrows are useless, maybe add them to your campfire. There are different types of rocks, a rock weighing 1 pound, a stone weighing 15 pounds, and a boulder that is not able to be picked up. The type you are looking for in the quest is the boulder that cannot be removed from its location.

I'm at episode 5 so far. I do like to see other player's experiences in the game, typically provides a nice contrast to my own. Keep up the good work  :)

Gameplay questions / Re: "The forest around looks extremely hostile."

It's not every day that I kill animals, and I generally avoid killing small game due to difficulty in chasing and higher chance of mangling the hide beyond usability, but I rarely have a problem with the spirits being angry with me. It is also not every kill that I perform a general sacrifice or (the removed) hunters sacrifice, but maybe about half the time as I can often forget or decide against it.

My understanding is that bothering the spirits excessively is bad, just as not acknowledging them can be bad. I would usually never use the same ritual twice in a row, even on separate days. Also be sure the meat you sacrifice hasn't been cooked yet as I think that can be unwanted by the spirits.

Being that my ancestry is primarily Norwegian and I love the snow although we rarely get it here in California (asides from in the mountains) I am somewhat envious of your location :P

Nice cabin!

General Discussion / Re: Probably the stupidest thing I’ve done in game.

My idea is that I can often buy enough furs from the driik villages next to my homes to have stuff to trade with the foreign traders, so most of my kills I turn into leather since it doesn't come from anywhere else. The exception is small game and any skin I feel I can turn into a superior fur. And yes for large game the dehair process alone can take upwards of 12 days which is where I get the 2 weeks from.

http://unrealworld.wikia.com/wiki/Hunting_Horn

I will usually make sure to let two dogs loose to chase after larger animals as even a single kick of an elk (or similar) can wound your dog to the point of unconsciousness, and if particularly aggressive it will continue to kill your dog. The second dog can stop this or provide enough threat to allow a wounded dog to retreat. Often times dogs will not be fast enough  to chase them down or will get outmaneuvered in dense forests, so it is advisable only let dogs go after prey that you have already wounded which will then have a more difficult time escaping. Otherwise you risk your dog running off in who knows what direction and having little tracks to follow, losing your dog. Although in my experience most of the dogs that have gotten lost linger in the area and with enough searching you should be able to find them nearby.

Bug reports / Re: Impossible quest
« on: February 21, 2018, 10:42:06 PM »
Before 3.5 I have had this quest offered to me once during winter season and the herb I was sent to gather was completely wilted in every location I found it at, and I did go immediately. While most times I've done this quest it provided no problems that time I do not see how I was supposed to gather the herbs when there was no usable parts left, besides having the foresight to stockpile herbs in anticipation of the quest. Excuse me as I don't remember what type it was exactly, although I think it was Heather.

There is some possibility I am wrong but I am doubtful, I remember being a little upset that I was unable to finish this quest, and I remember it being snowy. And it is unlike me to not attempt quests immediately. Looking at my msglog seems to suggest that I did go straight from a village to begin identifying herbs, that it was already snowy, and that I was indeed looking for heather, of which was all withered. Most of my actions previous were me killing a few njerps, hunting a few elks, building some stuff at my home, and the few villages I went to even before that I did not seem to have any inclination to identify herbs after visiting said villages.

Suggestions / Re: Bird thief quest issues
« on: February 18, 2018, 05:37:08 AM »
This is the quest that has so far given me the most problems. While it can be somewhat difficult to find the traps, with enough searching it seems doable. Though it would seem like if you take too long some of the feathers you are required to retrieve disappear (at least they did for me), and since it requires a certain amount of feathers that is a problem although somewhat reasonable. I've also had an instance where there was two different types of feathers at the location.

But my main issue with this quest is that even when I feel I've gathered the feathers and it comes time to 'burn' them, it's hard to know if you have done this step properly and it can take a few days to find out.

The stupidest thing I have done was walk some amount of kilometers from my homestead only to freeze to death in the snow, as I forgot to wear the clothes that I had in my inventory.

Often times I will skip skinning my kills depending on how willing I am to sit down in one area for two weeks to turn it into leather. And also often the meat I take I cook and immediately trade for furs if there is nothing else of value I could want. There will always be next time to get that bear skin (and now skulls!) (:

You may want to try the sartola, I noticed many of their villagers carry hunting horns while I was looking to buy a power knife.

I normally have my animals tied to various fences/trees (of which a fallen tree will still suffice) but I understand the want to let them roam about an open area, if I let them do so I make sure the entire area is enclosed by a fence.

Building on what Ametsala said, if you could manage to produce around 400 turnips I'm sure you could buy a few select items from a nearby village. I often cook upwards of 200 stag cuts which a quick check of a wiki is stated to have around 1(?) value each, and I will usually use them buy a few furs if I can. It may not be a quick income but you could survive and along the way gain access to the items you need/want. That is, if your harvest is good.

Gameplay questions / Re: Battleaxe or Battlesword?
« on: December 12, 2017, 04:59:34 AM »
phoenixshenanigans makes a very good point.

Perhaps in a vacuum the battlesword is better, my experiences with it and a high sword skill leave me getting a fatal wound (missing limb) on my opponents within a few swings and that is not while using counterstrikes in which case you are probably more likely to get a hit in (often while getting hit yourself). Personally I prefer a broadsword and roundshield to a battlesword. I have not used the battleaxe so can't give an opinion there, but my thoughts are that it will be just as punishing to get hit by one as a battlesword.

To state some useful info:

Battleaxe:
Blunt Damage:    6
Edge Damage:    9
Point Damage:    6
Attack Bonus:    Good
Defense Bonus:    Little
Weight:    4 lbs

Battlesword
Blunt Damage:    5
Edge Damage:    8
Point Damage:    4
Attack Bonus:    Remarkable
Defense Bonus:    Little
Weight:    8 lbs

I think the remarkable bonus to attack with the sword will result in more successful hits on your opponent than the battleaxe on average, while the battleaxe may do more damage. Take the weight of the two into consideration as well.
