General Discussion / Has Unreal World inspired you in one way or another?
« on: November 01, 2024, 11:01:06 PM »
For me, I included a Finnish character in my second, work-in-progress sci-fi novel as the Chief Scientist (it's a placeholder title name) in the protagonist space ship and he is very interested in unusual pieces of alien technology, I will also include a Skramasaksi as a "quest reward" for the main character that has a little subtle engraving referencing Unreal World, and finally, I added the Njerpez in the novel as the most organized and dangerous pirate gang in the Milky Way, their background is done and I'll add more details about them as the story develops.

At the moment the manuscript is still in its first version and unedited, I hoping to finish it in January next year but I have a lot of work to do, what about you? have you created something inspired by Unreal World?

This version has something changed? I still have the previous version but I'd like to know if something was updated, also how could I change the learning rate to level up a skill in training sessions? I'd prefer to raise my skills faster since grinding really takes a toll of my patience.

I hear you, in part is also my fault since my mind is accustomed to the common RPG games than realism ones, I thought light weapons could give more tactical advantages to offset their small damage percentage but it is something that is not implemented in-game and I don't know how it would be properly designed.

Well, next time I will roll a too-easy mode Driik(their hideworking skills are abysmal) Kaumo just for the sake to have good sword skills.

I took me a while to digest this information but as far I can see: Any weapon > knives

A Njerpez with a bastard sword made a short work of me and my dog, deflecting all my strikes and always was getting hit while having 92% knife skill and 85% dodge.

Of course it could be bad luck and that njerpez had good sword skill but still I considered it a cheap death, at the end it looks like attack bonus has a huge advantage over skill.

Solved'n'fixed bug reports / Re: 3.50 beta2 Human NPC unaffected by snow.
« on: January 21, 2018, 04:40:06 PM »
I decided to move this to the bug section just to know what the developers would think, npc would be obligued to carry skis in order to function properly and villagers wouldn't be affected by the snow when they are inside the village limits.

6
Tested with robbers NPC on spring where the snow reachs the waist, when you run from then and they are hostile (not using skis) you tend to accumulate fatigue at a alarming rate while the robbers move at the same speed (even more) without getting any message of fatigue when I look at them. Njerpez are also inmune to the slow effects of the snow.

Gameplay questions / Re: What stat determines...

The characters I tested were owl-tribe, I suspect Kaumo are the master race of the Unreal World since I think weight, height and physique are also taken in account. I remember one human companion fainting by just a single shallow cut to the abdomen, if only robbers were like that I'd justify their sheer numbers.

Edit: Yep, definitely must be endurance after further testing, if only fleeing from combat was feasible...

How much pain (or injuries) you can resist before blacking out? I have been testing some characters against robbers and they pass out after three or four minor injuries or one serious while NPC can resist many more hits (Njerpez are a good example of this). I find this unnerving since player character are fragile like a hare and can make combat more punishing.

General Discussion / Attack bonus

I can't find any information about this one, what exactly is attack bonus? does influence how do you perform an attack such as "you make a sloppy attack" or "you make a skilled attack"? I find knives to have that stat as "very little", meaning they the worst option for combat?

My most recent character got 678 days of living, being at winter season I embark of a quest to find an ango on the islanders, they are extremely rare to find and stumbled over some robbers, I didn't stand a chance thanks to the fatigue caused by snow and the humans NPC not affected by them. Ragequit again and quit living. I should had save scummed in that moment but lost the chance.

Suggestions / Foreign traders
« on: January 19, 2018, 04:46:23 AM »
Every time I come across the blue guys their wares are... disappointing, they seem to have rarely good wares with them but mostly they have very few items to sale or they have almost nothing interesting, I have better time trading with the Driik since they have more things available and accept everything as payment, if they want my precious furs then they be better bringing more gear with them for sale.

My two squirrels hides.

I think he was facing me because his small blue arrow was pointing at me, otherwise it would be a wound to the skull.

You'd be surprised by what adrenaline can do to a person. This link has several stories of people who have survived a major impalement:

https://www.oddee.com/item_98009.aspx

WARNING: There are graphic images in there so please consider that if you are bothered by it. I have a medical background and don't have any issue with seeing that kind of thing, but I feel it's only fair to warn you

I have seen a lot of graphic content in the past, I found those stories interesting to read, human body is fragile and at the same time resilient...

Back on topic, I just killed instantly a njerpez with a headshot, this time a broadhead arrow to the eye, I assume since that particular spot is clearly soft tissue the arrow just made its way easily inside and by being a broadhead type it just lacerated the brain enough to cause instant death, funny... one of my characters in the past got instantly killed the same way, made me ragequit as I saw "The wound prove to be fatal, you have died..." without any chance to do something about it.

Well that changes a lot of things, in the Unreal World case I'd say it should cause a bit large period of unconsciousness by severe brain trauma, the guy which I hit fainted when got the headshot but in the next turn just get up and rushed at me like "Just a fresh wound".

I consider the Njerpez the playable version of Kaumolainen.

So... any medic available here? as far I can tell a arrow wound (with a crossbow) of that kind should be an instant kill due how deep the arrow has pierced the head, this is how I interpret every grade of the injury in the game:

Minor: Pierces the skin but only scratches the bone.
Serious: Pierces the bone but not enough to reach the brain.
Deep: Definitely manages to get to the brain (at least to poke it).

I'm not a doctor and my medical knowledge is somewhat rusted but as far I can tell a deep bleeding wound should be a fatal since you are obviously damaging a very important organ in the body, happened me three times in the game.
