A new short film by Enormous Elk
This is not strictly UrW-related, but a stand-alone production by Enormous Elk. We made a short film called "Shaman Duel". It's a variation of a classic theme in Finnish folklore; two sages meet on a narrow path, they both refuse to give way to the other, so they end up having a magic duel to see who has to step aside. Worried about angering the spirits by this lake with the previous grouse snared, Rauko makes sure to sacrifice 1/2 the meat. This time he has a good feeling and thinks the spirits must be happy. The leather looks like it might turn out better than the last time, too. Early morning brings another overcast day with some drizzle, and with only bow and knife, he sets out hunting. Tramping through spruces, they spot a badger and Rauko commands the dog to attack. Following, he can't see well through the trees and rain, but then hears barking to the south-west and the dog has made the kill. He names the dog "Badgerbane".  The hide is too mauled to bother trying to tan, but the meat is very welcome and he sets a piece out for the spirits. May 09, 2018, 04:54:57 AM |

Hi, surprise, I'm back and... I'm going to Finland! Yeah!  Once again thank you all for support, it was VERY helpful. After almost a year of brainstorm, trip plan changed a little bit: 1. I'm going alone. Mainly because we can't leave our child for so long and my wife is a little affraid:) 2. Destination: lake Saimaa, start from Lappeenranta. Why? Because I have quite good, cheap connection(direct flight from Berlin). I leave more unaccesible and distant regions like Hossa for future. Maybe next year we will plan longer trip and travel there by our old trusty volvo. 3. I rent a kayak suitable for water area THIS size. This time I was a little affraid that my funny rubber kayak will not stand waves of Saimaa. I even tried to buy kayak on Tori site but this is another story... - rental service(very kind anh helpful people) https://drakkarsport.com - kayak model https://tahe-marine.taheoutdoors.com/tm_en/oceanspirit-pe.html 4. I'm going there for 10 days, 9 in kayak. I will be very very happy to see Savonlinna but I realy don't know how much km/day I can paddle so I don't make any asumptions right now. The trip starts on 16th August, ends on 26th. 5. Camping: mainly in deserted areas, islands. Sleeping in good sleepingbag on hamock with tarp 6. Cooking: Trangia stove for liquid fuel/suitable fireplaces. Food supplies will be bought in S-market near kayak rental area. I will also bring fishing rod. But it's unlikely that I catch something because I never hold fishing rod in my hands before and I even don't have one yet Maybe I will use fish trap mentioned by Erkka.7.
