Re: [3.60 stable linux] Everlasting dog bone Fixed now.

This was because of each nibble reduced small bone weights so very little that it got considered insignificant in the following item data procedures.

Fixed - persists in 3.61.

Re: I swear by shutters! A different character, in-cabin with 8 shutters. I wake in daylight and am setting about feeding my dogs, who slept inside with me (it was a two-dog night..lol) when my dogs start barking alarm!

Prowling my cabin was a wolf pack and they're right next to the door! At point-blank range, through the shutter, my first shot puts one down, unconscious.  I shoot him again and he jumps and runs, taking 1 more hit of the next three arrows I fired. Then I open my door and target the 2nd wolf with my best broadhead arrow and HE starts running. I follow the blood trail of the first wolf and find him dead on the ice of the river. Following the 2nd wolf's blood trail, he, too, has died of blood loss.

I skin and butcher them inside and get two decent hides and 70 cuts. After preparing the hides, I check the big deadfall that's placed across the frozen ford I've built on and there's a third wolf caught in it!

In the end, he rendered a fine winter pelt and another 30 cuts. If I had NOT had shutters, I'd have walked out my door smack into the pair of wolves!

Re: Robbers quest - any new ways to find them? So I'm going to take a guess here and say maybe when the robbers are from a different culture group that they're discernible, i.e. you get owl tribe robbers in kaumo land for robbers quest, if you can see them on the overland map. Maybe that's what's happening?

Re: Advanced Adventures problem Haven't played the latest version, but you used to be able to raise it with both Bow skill and Crossbow skill. I doubt you have max in both, so finding a crossbow would be your best bet if nothing has been changed. I usually try to raise crossbow anyway, as the majority of tribes start with quite poor Crossbow skill, and lower skills are much more likely to generate a new point than higher skills. Rather than hundreds of arrows at your cabin wall, it will probably only take dozens.

Re: Raft left on strategic map Something you may want to look at: Auto zoom in on homestead entry. If your homestead has walls on a river/lake tile the issue in could possibly be triggered by that (I avoid building too close to water as you can't zoom in/out when on foot when there's no ice). May well be a red herring, though.

If it's the condition above, disabling auto zoom in will probably cause the issue to go away (i.e. for you).

Re: Njerpez War Camps No man's land North of Reemi, South of the water between kaumo/reemi. West Bank of the river that separates the cultured side from njerpez.

Re: Njerpez War Camps I had one pop up in a quite similar location on 3.52; perhaps it is a more likely area than others due to its proximity to Njerpland. Mine was on an island just north of Reemi and about an hours walk/boatride from my cabin. Didn't appear until I'd killed twenty or so single Njerps and wiped out a couple of their settlements, so I always suspected the motivation of vengeance for such an aggressive location. Far more value in stripping the dozen or so reindeer hides from their kotas than looting their bodies, but it was also neat to get a few ready made buildings

Re: Various questions from a new player
There Is is a village request that specifies a trunk cut down while it's raining.
Snowing works as well. As far as I've been able to tell, the criterion is that there's precipitation when you finish the job. If it stops while you're working the log's no good for that particular purpose.

The Kalevala Day and 10,000 days of digital Finnish culture in UnReal World Today, February 28th, Finland celebrates Kalevala Day and the Day of Finnish Culture in honor of The Kalevala - a 19th century work of epic poetry regarded as our national epic. That's something to celebrate, but we've got some more for you on this special day...

In early 2020 we received an interesting e-mail from a player (Cheers, Travis!) sending congratulations on a milestone: UnReal World had lasted 10,000 days in the real world.
This was calculated from the date stamp in executable file of version 1.00b distribution archive. We don't even remember the exact release date, but it was summer of 1992. So the continuing lifespan of the game is at least 10,000 days - and well, it's quite something.

Needless to say, The Kalevala and UnReal World go well together. It is not so much about direct influence as a book, but the game draws inspiration from the same pool of oral tradition, folklore and mythology of our ancestors. Of this content some is rooted in ancient unrecorded history dating back thousands of years, and some is closer to Iron Age - where the game takes place. So let this day be a celebration of The Kalevala, but also 10,000 days of digital Finnish Culture in the form of UnReal World.

10,000 days...

10,000 days is a long time. Lines of source code in the game now sports somewhere around 140,000.
On average that makes:
14 lines of code per day
for 10,000 days.

Changelogs for version releases contain around 15000 lines of text, so that makes:
1,5 lines of changelog entries per day
for these 10,000 days.

...and continuing

That's just some numbers to give an idea of the long history, which is continuing as we speak. It seems to be 9 days since the last dev.post here at the forums.
So on average there should be around 126 new lines of code and 13,5 lines of changelog entries written.
We haven't checked but we are continuing.

Would you buy an old but continuously developed fenno-ugric roguelike from these guys?

From the left: Sami (creator) and Erkka (co-designer) of UnReal World

We wish you happy Kalevala Day and the Day of (digital) Finnish Culture.
Let's continue.
