Embla's tale
[/b][/u]
Embla was her name, and she was of the Kaumolainen. When she was little, she'd still lived with her parents in a Kaumo village, but as she grew older, she noticed people were whispering and telling strange rumours about her and her family. She grew much faster than the other children, both in height and strength, and people had decided that this must be because her mother Anja had lain with a giant water spirit or something equally strange, that her size and strength must be caused by some magic. Eventually, her father got sick of all the bad rumours and they moved far into the no man's land near the Reemi lands, outside of Kaumo land.
Embla was now 16 years old, and towered above both women and men, with strength to match. She found herself alone, her parents having gone off to hunt and forage, and never making it back to their new home. They'd moved to have better luck with the animals, and hadn't finished building the houses yet. Now it was all up to Embla herself to finish the two log houses, and do her best to live all on her own.
After finishing the smaller house, living off fish and the occasional trapped grouse or hare, she began making trap pits around the houses, just in case something stumbled inside. She'd seen glutton tracks nearby and didn't want to take any chances with such a ferocious animal. Her life continued, filling the weeks up until Midsummer by just building a cellar, finishing the fireplace and smoking as much of the pikes and perch that she could. She'd gotten lean now, not starved exactly but getting closer to it, and she resembled a tall tree more than the she-bear she'd looked like when she had been well-fed with her family.
On Midsummer night, a strange thing happened to Embla. She'd been thanking the spirits every day, just like her mother had taught her, even cutting off a lock of her hair and gifting it to the lake spirits to give thanks for all the fish. She was dozing inside the cabin, mending a pair of mittens, when she heard three loud thuds and sounds of pain from outside. It was the trap pits, and inside them were three wild reindeer, two large does and one smaller stag. It must have been the work of the spirits, gifting her with all this! She hurried to take care of the reindeer, making sure to make use of their hides and each scrap of meat on them. Now she'd gone from having just about enough food to survive the day to having more meat than she'd ever imagined! The small cabin was crammed with slices of reindeer meat left to smoke, and she had to move her sleeping spot outside just to make sure she didn't choke on the constant smoke from the fireplace.
On Midsummer day, Embla was fetching water from the lake, doing some fishing at the same time. She was staring off at the lake's surface, at the water, letting her mind wander. She saw a black shape in the water, what looked like a man swimming further out into the lake, under the water. The shadow of the man rose to the surface, and she heard a voice amongst the rustle of the reeds and gentle waves:
"Embla, sweet child, come closer..."

Alas, Embla's life was cut short when she was out fishing and got ambushed by a bear. She tried to escape, but the bear's wrath was too strong for her. Genuinely a shame, I really liked playing her save.
